Available from the NZ Affordable Art Show 30 July - 2 August 2009. Part of my 'Journeys Through Beech' series, this painting portrays the colourful lushness of our New Zealand bush. Sparked from my recent travels to the South Island and driving through the untouched Beech forests of Arthurs & Lewis Pass, as well as the Milford Road. These lush Beech forests tower over you like silent ancient giants. Here I depict the movement of flora & sky swooshing in a symphony of colour & light. The shimmering of the sun captured in highlights of gold across the canvas, travelling sparingly to the forest floor. The contrast of colours affected by the light, as well as the movement, makes for a lush and textural abstract surface. The paint is applied with a thick impasto technique, making the paint jump out to enhance the reflective-ness of light on the surface, as well as conveying the expressiveness and speed of movement.
